Evening run and a date
Swthrt and I did our regular weekday evening run at Bonifacio High Street last night. Swthrt had a meeting at their Global City branch. We decided to do our 5k at BHS while waiting until 7pm, after the color coding ban. We started our run at around 5:30pm. We did one loop for our warm up before stretching. We then continued our run to complete our goal. We met Eric (Run-4-change) and Dr. Doray (Doralicious), who was introduced to us later, also doing their workouts. We had a short chat with them after the run. After changing clothes, we then proceeded to R.O.X. to register for the VSO run. The night ended with a pre-anniversary dinner date (we’ll be celebrating our 13th anniversary on November 4th). We initially planned to have a dinner at Claw Daddy but also being pasta lovers we were also enticed to dine at Italianni’s Restaurant (which is located across Claw Daddy). Finally, the Italian blood in us prevailed, hehehe. We have Penne Arrabiato (Penne pasta with mushrooms, tomatoes and fresh basil in a spicy peppered-vodka sauce) and Angel hair spaghetti Mediterraneo (with fresh tomatoes, artichoke hearts, black olives and oven-dried tomatoes. Seasoned with basil in a white wine sauce) and hot peppermint tea with lemon. It was a wonderful dinner date.
Time to move up
I have been contemplating on joining a 15K race for the past few weeks. I finally made up my mind last night. After our 5K run at BHS, Swthrt and I went to R.O.X. to register for the VSO Bahaginan Race. I bravely registered for the 15K event while Swthrt, who was hesitant to join, because she wanted to run with a buddy to pace her, opted for the 5K. I guess, she just can’t resist the excitement of joining a race so even with or without a pacer she registered, ha ha ha. This distance will be a new challenge for me. My longest run during my workouts was 12K. My longest race is 10K, which I did it four times with a PR of 1:05. I know it will only be a 3K more to complete it, but still it is 3K, he he he. As I have done before, I will try to run the 15K distance this weekend to simulate the race and hoping to gain confidence. There’s no turning back for me now, this will be another first for me. See you runners at the starting line.

On our way back, Swthrt was already having a problem with the heat of the sun. That’s really her weakness. Swthrt was able to endure it with the help of sufficient water stations along the route. After crossing the intersection of Mckinley Road, the lead runners of the 10K caught up with us. We picked up our pace and reached the finish line with an unofficial time of 36:00 min. We immediately looked for our children and were happy to know that they finished the race and already got their loot bags.
The race was well organized even with the distribution of the certificates and give-aways. We have some photos taken for souvenirs. I was also able to take photos of some bloggers/ runners I knew at the final stretch to the finish. We were able to meet some of the bloggers.
with Coach Rio
After the race, Josh already wanted to go and eat breakfast which led us to Mc Donalds Market Market. Hope other runners out there will also be joined by their loved ones during races. It is not only family bonding, but a healthy way to spend weekends.
What a great way to end the race. Afterwards, we went home and got ready for church.

Swthrt had a meeting at their Global City branch last Friday. She was excited because she was able to go home early in time for our Friday evening run. We dropped-off Josiah at home and proceeded to UP, our regular training ground. On our way to UP, Swthrt remembered that we needed to fetch JM at school because he had a practice in Tree-atro class for their recital this first semester. We were quite disappointed as we have to cancel our scheduled run for the night. When we arrived at JM’s school at around 6:30 pm, we learned that their practice will be up to 7:30 pm in the evening. We immediately went back to UP since the school is near. We had enough time to do short 3K tempo run.

After the run, we went back to JM’s school and fetch him. At least we had a good run for the night.
This time I knew that Swhrt had already re-invented herself into a runner. Swthrt knew that I will be tapering on Saturday because I’m joining the 10K Paa-Bilisan Race on Sunday morning. I felt that she wanted to run on Saturday morning, so I asked her if she wanted to go to UP to run. She gladly said yes and get herself ready to go. Swthrt did 2 rounds at the academic oval (total of 4.4K). I timed her run and got a split time of 15:00 min for the first round and 16:00 min on the second. As if Swthrt was not contented with her morning run, she then again joined our friends in the evening to run another 4.4K easy run. This time she did an almost equal split time of 17:00 min. Hooray for swthrt!
10K Paa-Bilisan Race
We arrived at BHS at around 5:15 am. Upon entering the parking lot near the starting area, we saw my cousins Kuya Hector and Alwyn getting ready for the race. There were quite a big number of runners who showed up for the race. It was unexpected since there was a race Saturday morning at Alabang and another race at Roxas Boulevard. I also noticed that the race organizers have set-up a smaller assembly area which is half of the usual starting boxes in the previous races that I have joined.
This made all the runners squeeze into the starting area. My cousins and I positioned in the middle of the starting area. After the opening ceremony, the gun was fired. The 10K and 5K runners were released at the same time. Honestly, I’m hoping to finish strong in this race and break the 60min time. I’m quite familiar with the route and confident that I can do it. I started at a faster pace hoping to sustain it till the end. I don’t have any problem doing the first round except for the lack of drinking water at the water stations. The sun was up and the heat was really draining the runners. As I took the right turn to Serendra, I saw Bards, aka Banana running. We had a few chat. She even asked about Swthrt, who was with me to give support but did not run. Bards went on as she was keeping pace with another runner. I was able to grab a bottle of water at the 5K mark across the starting line and brought it till the end. I also took notice of my time which was 30:00 min at first loop. As I approached the turning point near the Essensa I saw Bugobugo who waved at me. I again saw Bards who cheered on. These gestures really give encouragement to runners to go on strong. After the turn around point near Essensa I got my second wind which I would normally knew if I had that big burp, hahaha what a sign. When I reached Serendra on my second loop I looked at my watch and saw that I was already running over 60:00min.
I gave the final push and finished with an unofficial time of 1:06:00, almost same time with my Adidas KOTR 10K where I PRed. I was quite disappointed with my finishing time, since the KOTR’s route had more uphills as compared to this race. What could be the culprit? Do I need more speedworks during my trainings or am I just burned out doing back-to-back weekend races? Any suggestions?
After the race I got the chance to meet Vener (rununltd), Taki (techspech), and Dennis (runningfatboy).
IceOne (Overdrive), Vener (rununltd), Bro J (J Running), Taki (Techspech), Tolits, Dennis (runningfatboy)
with Christine (Vener's wife, i hope i got the name right), Mae (in my own views),and Swthrt (Baby)
We had a few chat and some photo ops. Swthrt and I had to leave early because we have to go to church. I will be leading the congregational worship. I thank the Lord for a great race and the wonderful people (bloggers) I have met. God bless and see you at the next race.

Swthrt and Chiqui during their cooldown
The 21K runners were released at exactly 5:30am. 10K runners were then called to the starting line. Swthrt and JM were positioned behind the 10K runners since they will be running the 5K. I was joined by Gemini0522 who will also be running the 10K with knee injury. We positioned ourselves in the middle part of the assembly area. I had a goal and a plan in mind. Plan A was to finish the race within 1 hour. Plan B is to at least set a new PR in 10K. My plan was to start faster than my usual pace and try to sustain it to most part of the race. The starting gun was fired and the runners of the 10K are on the road. I heard gemini0522 shouting at me “see you at the finish line Bro J”. I felt good at the start of the race and was still coming strong as I approached the intimidating Kalayaan Flyover. I knew this will be a tough portion because some of my friends have already run this course in previous races. I was able to make it through the flyover. The site of the water station at the foot of the flyover makes me run even faster plus it was downhill. I was able to keep pace even for short time with Erlito, my high school classmate. I ran at a steady pace all the way to the half point for 10K. On my way back, my cousin Alwyn caught up with me. We had a few chat and then I told him to just go with his stronger pace and went ahead. I also ran with my officemates, Norman who gladly offered me his water to freshen me up. The return route at the flyover was harder than I thought. I had to slow down and took shorter strides and try to avoid walking. As I near The Fort, I knew it will only be a few more kilometers to the finish. I tried to push more, hoping to hit my goal of 60 min. As I approach the finish line, I looked at the clock but I’m having a problem with my sight because I did not use my eyeglasses. I think I hit 1:06 for this race, 9 minutes faster than my previous PR. I may not achieved my goal but I have set a new PR and I felt great about my run. I thank the Lord that He protected me on this race. I was welcome by Swthrt and JM at the finish line.
Swthrt and JM also have a good run of the 5K route. They just told me that there was no water station along the way and that it was really hot because the sun was already up by the time they started. Swthrt finishes the race in 34 min while JM clocked 32 min. Hooray for Swthrt and JM!

God’s language of telling us his ways sometimes come even in simplest events in our lives. I guess all runners were as excited as us over the much awaited “Adidas King of the Road Race” on Saturday, October 11. Swthrt will be running her first official 5k race and God made a big exclamation point on this event. Yesterday, we received the pair of Asics running shoes which her sister Joy and brother-in-law Den bought for her. As you can see we were beneficiaries of the blessings which God has given to our loving and gracious brothers and sisters. Hopefully we can break-in swthrt’s shoes tonight. We are planning to run at BHS and afterwards attend the Running Aid 3 at R.O.X..

In the afternoon, Swthrt needed to go to the Army Wellness Center in Fort Bonifacio to watch and support her friends in the game of the Honda Women’s North vs. South basketball match. It’s an exhibition match before the Finals of the Men’s Basketball Tournament of Honda Cars Makati, Inc.. We decided to go early and take a run from the army gym to BHS and back to the gym. The distance is approximately 5K. It was a first for swthrt to practice on the city road. UPD academic oval provides lane for runners and bikers making it convenient to run and ride. This time, swthrt experienced being cautious of the vehicles on the road. Anyway, we finished the course and had a good easy run.
Saturday morning, we were back at our regular training ground, UP academic oval. We started late, the sun was already up and so we could already feel the heat. Swthrt was finding it hard to run at this time. I could hear her shouting, “why am I doing this”, hehehe. But then, she continued to run and finished our 5K planned run. I just kept paced with her. I used the nike+ipod to track the ups and downs of her run. I was surprised by sweetheart because in the evening we were back again at UP to do our regular 4.4k run (2 rounds of the academic oval). This time, it was a tempo run. The temperature was cold since it rained prior to our run.
No run on Sunday. I had to bring JM to Ateneo for his entrance exam for high school. We have to be at the examination area before 8:00 am. Afterwards, the rest of the family went to church for the Sunday Service. We also have a lunch birthday celebration of one of our churchmate, Jun. After the celebration, swthrt had a women’s fellowship with the women at church. While I brought home the kids and my parents. On my way back to fetch swthrt, I drop by the UP campus since it was still 3:30 pm and they usually end the fellowship at around 5:00 pm. While I parked at our usual space near the Abelardo Hall, I can not resist the urge to run as I saw runners running around. I check on my bag at the trunk of the car and was quite disappointed to know that I already used up all the running shorts in there. I forgot to replenish my stocks. I then decided to do brisk walking. I was able to complete almost 3K before going back to fetch swthrt.
Again, it was another great weekend workout. God bless!

We arrived at the gym at around 6:30am. This time, we were not lucky either. Since it was a holiday, the person in charge of the oval was not yet around when we arrived. The guard on duty did not know whether they will be open to the public or not. He just told me that all he knew was there will be a scheduled practice of two PBA teams for the day. And so, we have to think of another place to run. We were praying that it will not rain too hard because we really wanted to run and decided to do it at UP even with the drizzle. On our way to UP along Katipunan road, we thought we could do it at Greenhills. We used to pass by Greenhills shopping mall when swthrt was still assigned at their Shaw Boulevard branch. We remembered that there were lots of people doing their walking and running around the mall every morning. I took a U turn and proceeded to Greenhills right away. Upon reaching the Greenhills complex, the parking area was almost full of vehicles and many people were already walking / running at the covered path-walk of the shopping mall. We started our run at around 7:00am. Swthrt and I ran together up to 6.3K where in she decided to end her workout by walking around the mall twice. I continued my run and finished my planned 10k run. It was a good run and we were glad we did not give up in finding a place to run. We went home and had fried rice and shrimp bulanglang for breakfast.
