Run to Build Buddy Run
Though we run for fitness, we now seldom join races, and this run served its purpose for us to have again the feel and excitement of joining races. The buddy run is tailor-fit for us since we have been running together at pace with each other in almost all the races. We also love seeing couples running together whether they are love partners, father and son, mother and daughter or simply just friends. It was also great to see and chat with friends like Jun and Mariel (Solemates) and Vima who were busy with their task in organizing the race, and other friends who were church members of CCF.
Congratulations to Runrio! We hope that this will not be our only race in the Ortigas area. To CCF, may you continue share Christ and his good news of salvation to others, God bless!
Our next race, Goldilocks 21K…. see you there!

Back in races for Team JRunning
Summer vacation for kids also allowed us to run on mornings before going to our respective offices. To be focused on training, Swthrt and I decided to join the Runrio Series Goldilocks Fun Run - 21K on 22 May 2011. Though we don’t expect to break our PRs, this race will serve as part of our training perhaps on another full marathon race as there are several marathons scheduled on the second half of the year.
But before the Goldilocks’ race, we have a last minute decision of joining the Run to Build Race at Tiendesitas. It will be our first race at the Ortigas area. We intended to join the 10K category but registration is already closed as told to me by the Runrio staff at RUNNR. We just opted to make it a real fun run by joining the Agape 3K category, a buddy run (2 people will run together and must finish together) instead.
We hope these two races would spike up our training to bring us back in tip-top shape for our next marathon or ultramarathon as the case may be.

RMCHS Batch 82 First Family Fun Run
The fun day
Swthrt and I arrived at UP at around 5:15 am. We decided to do a couple of rounds of the academic oval before proceeding at the registration area at the side parking lot of the Bahay ng Alumni.

After we have registered and made some chika with batch mates, we continued our run to complete our 10K goal for the day as part of our training. At around 6:30 am, we returned at the venue and prepare for the event. I opened the event with a prayer after which batch mate Robert Cornelio thanked and welcome the participants. I led the stretching before we started the run.

So to those who missed the fun day, hope to see you next time!Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Run for Clean Air

The participants were composed of members of the NAMRIA Running Club and other employees who regularly walk or run around our compound. It was really a blessing that we have a big compound (about 500 meters loop driveway) wherein we can run. The agency also support and promote the advocacy of having a healthy living by exercising regularly. We have Tuesdays and Thursdays as our athletic days wherein employees are allowed to joins in various physical activities such as basketball, volleyball, tae-bo, table tennis, running, etc. This is of course with the condition that an employee should have no pending works before joining any of these activities.

There was also a public clamor that we conduct races in the office regularly for at least once or twice a month. It is an indication that people are now starting to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

Advocacy and Volunteerism
To the organizers, Congratulations and more power!

The Masters 15K Run was another event of a different kind. It was a no frill but all thrill race as the runners put it. It was a labor of love and volunteerism all for the joy of running. Runners donated resources (money, sports drinks, bananas, etc.) and time (volunteer race officials) to be able to put up the 1st Masters 15k. The venue was ideal for runners, the place was free from vehicular traffic and less polluted air. Despite the heavy downpour in the early morning of Sunday, runners still trooped to Camp Aguinaldo for the race. The race started a bit late than the announced 5:30 starting time because of the bad weather. It was still dark at around 5:30am and to ensure the safety of the runners the gun start was moved to 6:00am. The masters (35 yrs old and up for women, 40 yrs. old and up for men) have the time of their life as they only have to compete with their age category where a medal was at stake in each division. After the race, everyone was treated with a refreshing ice cold beer, sports drinks, ice drops, bananas and more. Everyone had a great time including Swthrt and I who volunteered as race officials, water/beer station aid, and photographer. Next time, as we will qualify for the masters, we will surely be on the race as runners, hehehe!
